You can create easily a link button with the background color of your choice (148 colors available, details here). These buttons can be displayed in any part of your article or in any module with the type Custom HTML.
It's a good solution to create an horizontal menu with several background colors. Look my example in the module position "bottom" of the Home page (just above the social icons).
Procedure
You must toggle the wysiwyg editor and add the CSS class "color-XX" in the code of your link.
